About this site

Who runs this site?

This site is solely run by me, Renee. It says “posted by starbright31″ for each post because that’s my screen name for most online discussion forums. If you’d like to know more about me, go here.

What is the purpose of this site?

This site was created to post all the latest press regarding the band We Are Scientists.

Where does this news come from?

I get news alerts delivered to my email address with anything that contains “We Are Scientists.” The deliveries can get so frequent that even if you mention “We Are Scientists” in your blog, whether it be on Myspace or Livejournal, as long as it’s on view for the public to see, there’s a chance that I’ll see it too. I check Tumblr a lot too. And Twitter. When there’s he rare chance I see WAS in a magazine I’ll clip that shit out. And of course, there’s all you fans from around the world who will email me to let me know of news I haven’t posted yet, which I’m very grateful for, so thanks for that! Sometimes I get other official stuff from unexpected people out of the blue. And if I beg and persist for answers till his inbox gets full, I might get news from everyone’s favorite bassist, Chris Cain.

Why does this site exist?

I made this site around April 2006 after I discovered how wonderful WordPress is, and a few weeks after my fourth We Are Scientists show. Boredom at work had me spending about 80% of my day cyberslacking, and much of that activity consisted of looking up WAS on the internet. I was posting a lot of pictures and articles at another forum that’s not even remotely related WAS and I realized that I should make my own site.

Are Chris and Keith aware of this site?

Yup! This is me being ridiculously proud of what was on the front page of the Sci-Cave years and years ago:

And as of December 2008, What’s the Word has been linked on the main navigation menu for the official site. Thanks, guys.

I have to stress that while this site is recognized by We Are Scientists, it is NOT an official website. Officially approved, yes, but this site is mine and the content here does not express the opinions of We Are Scientists, Chris Cain and Keith Murray, unless specified.  Everything on this site is checked for accuracy unless stated otherwise and if things are wrong, trust me, I will be contacted about it and it will be corrected immediately. I don’t work for the guys, their management staff, their publicity people, etc. This is a labor of love <3.

If you’d like to contribute any news, or if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to email me at reneebarrera [at] gmail [dot] com. You can also leave a comment on any of the posts or pages at this site and I’ll be happy to respond to you.

I would like to remind everyone reading this that What’s the Word is not a place for you to leave personal comments for Keith and Chris to hopefully answer one of these days. Hit the guys up on the We Are Scientists Sci-Cave/Myspace/Facebook/Twitter etc. for your sexual favors, marriage proposals, demands for child support, or all other personal stories and etc.

A very special thanks to these regular contributors to What’s the Word: Mahsa Borhani (for your designs and work in interviewing the guys!), Laura Cook (for all the time and effort in ripping/uploading/scanning SO MUCH WAS stuff for me that I could’ve never accomplished), Zoe (for all your magazine scans you’ve sent me), Adrian Stone (‘cuz you’re my hero), Jennifer Ruidera (for all the photos you’ve contributed), Joanne Atherton and Tracey Hooper (for also hooking it up with loads and loads of photos and videos at the UK shows I wish I could be at). Without the contributions I’d be sorely lacking content for this site. Thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do! And last but certainly not least, my friend Megan Small, who I owe the world to because WAS would have never been on my radar without her good taste in music.

One last note- if someone from any major media outlet wants me to take down links to download certain We Are Scientists performances, interviews, etc. please let me know and I will take it down at your request. I have a vague understanding of copyright laws and I’m aware that much of the material that’s available to download here breaks some rules. Same goes for any photographers that want me to take down any of their photos I’ve posted. Don’t sue me, bro. Thanks!

  9. richard says :

when will there next album be ?
will they be playing uk festivals next year ?

    • starbright31 says :

Maybe sometime next year is my guess. They haven’t said exactly when yet.

No shows planned anytime soon either. I’m sure that if the album comes out next year, there will be at least one or two UK festivals they’ll be at.

  10. Holly says :

Renee, do you think there’s any chance We Are Scientists will be at V Festival Chelmsford 2010? Because they always seem to play at Reading but rarely V.

    Thanks. Great site.

    • starbright31 says :

They did V Festival in 2006, but you’re right, they seem to play at Reading more often.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer for you because I have no idea about what UK festivals they might perform at next year. I’m sure they’ll do a couple of festivals- I hope they can do whichever one you’ll be attending. :)

  11. richard says :
